Review: J Crew Long-Sleeve Tweed Dress

When this dress made its debut, my first thoughts were, Perfection...Tweed, beautiful neckline and a classic, Jackie-O vibe.
As some things go, it was good in concept but not so much in reality.  I'm wearing my normal size 6 and the fit on top was perfect...as if it had been tailor made.  The bottom however was a different story.  It ran big in the hips....you can see in the picture on the right where I've gathered up two or three inches in the back.
I found the dress to be heavy and hot.  It's made of 49% cotton, 28% acrylic and 23% polyester, so it doesn't breathe very well.  I could see myself sweating the day away.
I did like the frayed neckline, waist and sleeves...very chanel!  Nevertheless, even on deep discount the fit is a deal breaker for me.

Have you tried J Crew's tweed dress?  If so, what were your thoughts?

  1. thank you for this review - i have the pepper tweed dress, and thought of getting this one too for its longer sleeves. i think based on your review though, i will pass. that's too bad though - it had so much potential!

  2. That is so disappointing, it does look like a lovely dress for work and other reviews are saying the same thing. Oh J. Crew when will they ever learn?

  3. Thanks for the review! I love the dress as well but it won't work on my body type. Plus the acrylic/poly content killed it for me.

  4. I thought the same thing when I saw this dress! So beautiful and classic. Then I saw it in person the other day at my B&M, completely disappointed. The arms felt very itchy, I guess that is fabric content???

  6. I have not tried it but was initially drawn to it for the same reasons you had. Your review is consistent with the others I've read. Too bad on the artificial ingredients and poor fit below waist. It still look really good on you though.

  7. I had this creation home and brought it right back, for all of your reasons and some of my own. Sad.
