OOTD 2/10/2012 - Pattern Mix

Well, I knew when I put this together that I was asking for abuse and ridicule and they didn't let me down. Oh well, I liked it and that's really all that matters.

I wore one of my favorite sweaters of all time, the spotted cat cardigan. It's hard to tell from the pics, but the spots are dark chocolate brown. I paired it with my new red gingham perfect shirt.

I ordered this shirt a month or so ago and it finally shipped. I tried it in both a 4 and a 6...as usual with the perfect shirts, I decided to go with the 6. It afforded me some extra room through the shoulders and chest...don't want any pulling and gaping across the boobs.

Also, my frog bracelet arrived. Hmmm, I'm on the fence about this little guy. I like the somewhat "tortoisey" look of the links but I'm not sure about little mr. ribbit himself...he comes off as a little "cheapy" to me. For me, he's a return....But if the price drops to about half of its current $68, I might be back in the game.

Have you tried either of these pieces? If so, what are your thoughts?

Review: Ann Taylor Loft Irene Mid Heeled Sandal

As I was scanning Ann Taylor Loft's new arrivals, I ran across the Irene Mid-Heeled Sandals. They reminded me somewhat of J Crew's Ares Heel and I was in the market for a good neutral, mid heeled sandal, so I thought I'd give them a try.

They come in three colors...tropical sand and black (I ordered both of these), as well as, warm caramel. They are made of leather with a cute stacked wooden-looking heel. There is a colorblock accent at the heel...the black has a camel accent. As for the tropical sand, the accent is ever-so-slightly different from the base color of the shoe...so slight in fact, most people won't even notice there is a difference.

I ordered my normal size 7 and the fit is good. Now, I just need the weather to warm up so I can take these babies for a test drive!

My friend needed to run into TJ Maxx...and I came out with a new pair of shoes. I fought myself but in the end, I still came home with them anyway.

They are neutral suede driving loafers from Michael Kors. Super cute and super comfy. I actually sized down half a size, as my normal 7 was a little loose.

I am a sucker for valentines day, so I knew from the "get-go" that I would have to have this piece. It's made from a silk/spandex combo, so there's a bit of give and stretch in the fabric that I love and it has the most beautiful drape. It runs a bit big....I normally wear a 4 or 6 in J Crew tops. In the heart throb, both the 2 and the 4 fit; however, in the end I went with the 4, as it had a bit more room across the shoulders. See it here on M , Dina, Rynetta and AppGal.

In additon to clothes and shoes, I have a thing for cosmetics and beauty supplies too. and I love it when a product lives up to its hype. Therefore, I thought I'd share a product that I've tried and can't live without....Burt's Bees Naturally Nourishing Milk and Honey Body Lotion.

If you're like me, you have extremely dry skin right now. I slather up at night, my "alligator skin" is gone and I still feel moisturized the next morning. This lotion really is "all that" and its inexpensive...even better!

Has anybody else tried this lotion? Do you have any products that you swear by?

Since warm weather will be here before we know it, I wanted to mention a couple of really cute sandals that I ran across recently.

The first pair is at Target...the Merona Erma Patent Wedge. I tried these on in-store and they run tts. (my normal 7 was perfect) They come in red, black, taupe and turquoise and are $24.99. The only problem that I had with these, I couldn't decide which color....I want them all!

The other pair is at Ann Taylor Loft...the Irene Mid-Heeled Sandal. These have been ordered and are on the way, so check back for a review and final thoughts. They come in black, caramel and tropical sand (shown below) and are $79.50.

Speaking of great red things, I threw a tube of Poppy King lipstick into one of my most recent orders. I have searched high and low over the years for a good shade of red lipstick, mostly to no avail. Poppy King, I'm happy to say, fits the bill. I also like that depending on how heavy a hand you use, you can vary the shade from sheer to full on color.

Have you tried J Crew's Poppy King? If so, what do you think?

As I was perusing a recent Redbook magazine, I ran across the article, "What Men Want to Know About Women." The number one question men had was...."Why do women need so many shoes?"

Here's the witty answer given by Heather Cocks, co-founder of the celebrity fashion blog, Go Fug Yourself.

Shoes are a craving, like candy minus the calories. An especially hot pair can make us feel sexier, taller, and stronger, all without any creepy injectibles or carb-free crash diets. No matter what our drama — stress, bloating, breakups — shoes almost always fit, and if not, there's no guilt in going up a size. Not to mention that our wardrobes are as complicated as we are: Can I tuck those Jeans into boots, or are they stiletto-optimized? Do I need to wear my Triscuit-binge pants, which only take flats? Maybe an outfit requires brown shoes, but what shade? And if those brown shoes chafed my foot yesterday, then today I want a pair that won't hit the same spot. I totally agree with Heather. The right shoe can transform an outfit and give you that extra boost of confidence that you need to take the world by storm. and there are so many different nuances that we need to consider when pulling a look together.

You know the old saying, "You snooze, you lose"? Such was the case recently with J Crew's Cafe trouser in wool herringbone. So, when I ran across a pair of wool herringbone pants at Ann Taylor Loft, I thought I'd better move more quickly. Not to mention, they were offering a 60% off promo and I could get them for $28.80...needless to say, I pounced.

These pants are well worth $28 but not a whole lot more, as they are somewhat thin and unlined. The fit is tts.

Review: J Crew Polka-Dot Popover

The polka-dot popover...the good, the bad and the dotty. I love a good polka-dot piece so I knew I'd have to try this top.

Overall, I like it...my only complaint is that it's a bit sheer. I wish they'd made it in a more substantial material. But with that said, for me, it's still a keeper. I plan to layer it instead of wearing it alone and if I ever choose to, I can always put a cami underneath.

The fit is tts to a touch big. I normally vary between 4 and 6 in J Crew blouses and went with a 4 in this top. Unless you have broad shoulders, you should be fine with the smaller of your J Crew sizes.

So, you've heard the good and the dotty. Now for the bad...remember that i-phone that I was supposed to get? I went to get it the other day and someone at the cellular store had given me incorrect information. Instead of being able to upgrade in January, I have to wait until September. What a bummer!!

Today I wore my new ballet flats in golden sunflower...they are so cute and cheery! I looked down at them and they reminded me of two little lemon drops.

They are extremely well made...super soft leather uppers with leather soles. They also have a bit more padding for some extra cushion and comfort. IMO, they run a touch bigger than some of J Crew's other shoes. I still took my normal 7 but if your in between sizes, this could be an issue.

I wore them shopping today and they were very comfortable...no rubbing, pinching, etc.

In my travels today, I visited the J Crew Factory store. I tried on the factory sequin zebra tee but for some unknown reason, I didn't take a picture of it on. It was super cute and the fit was tts. (my normal S was a good fit) I did, however, have the presence of mind to snap a picture of the beading and sequin detail. I never saw the original retail version but this one seems very well made and is a real work of art. I probably would have taken him home if he had been on promo but he was selling at full price. ($59.50)

I love this outfit! It has all of my favorites...stripes, chambray, tortoise and my new raspberry pink herringbone jacket.

I found this jacket on ebay as I was stalking for an azalea bella. It's from holiday 2005 and it is gorgeous! I should have taken a picture of the inside of the jacket...it's almost as pretty as the outside! All the seams are covered in green satin and it has this great little pocket inside. Also, the collar is lined with a patterned material so that when you pop the collar...Boom! Instant cuteness! I'll have to follow up with some pics...you girls need to see this.

The online stock is very limited but you should be able to find them in-store. If the store you visit doesn't have them, ask the SA to find them in a neighboring store. If they do, you should receive a coupon for $4 off. (That's how I got them for $23...the regular price is $27)

OOTD 1/20/2012-"Red Hot" Theme Week - Day 4

Alright, I'm finishing out the week in my new schoolboy blazer in maraschino cherry. (maraschino cherry is a true red) I ordered this back before Christmas with one of the many promos and it finally shipped a couple of weeks ago.

This little guy filled a void in my closet. Surprisingly, I was missing a red blazer...and everybody needs a red blazer...right?! It is very well made...100% wool, fully lined and the fit is tts. (I took my normal J Crew blazer size) I also love the gold crested buttons which add a little extra bling! One other nice feature worth mentioning, it has two cute little pockets inside...one about the size of a cell phone and the other is just perfect for that favorite tube of lipstick. (My husband says I'm sucked in by packaging and he's right...it's those little details that get me everytime.)

It you don't have a red blazer currently in your closet, substitute a red cardi to complete the look.

Day 3...of "Red Hot" Theme Week. I love today's outfit! It doesn't get much better than polka-dots and bright orangey red.

These are the new J Crew factory skimmer pants in modern red. The fit is tts and I would say, depending on your climate, they can be worn year-round. I forsee lots of wear in their future, as the chino shorts in modern red were one of my best summer 2011 purchases.

In relation to the length, for reference, I am 5' 5 1/2". Hope everyone has a wonderful day!

Day 2...of "Red Hot" Theme Week. I thought I better tone it down a bit today...yesterday's double shot of red proved to be a little more than some of my co-workers could stand.

As I walked into the office yesterday, I was greeted by..."red and orange? Really?"

Yeah, really! and I liked it quite a bit! I wonder what some people feel gives them the right to make negative comments on someone else's attire? I see people sometimes and think, what in the world was she thinking? But I would never voice those thoughts. And generally, if you feel the need to comment, you can always find something nice to say.

It's no surprise that I love J Crew's orangey-red that comes in a variety of different names....vibrant flame, cerise, modern red and poppy, just to name a few.

So, I thought it might be fun to do a theme week entitled, "Red Hot". It's good to have fun with your clothes and the pop of red will be a bright spot on these cool winter days.

Day 1...Since I stayed in my pajamas yesterday, I'll give you a double dose of red today. :o)

Review: J Crew Factory Maritime Blazer

I was super excited to see that the Crewlet had released a version of last year's retail maritime blazer. Since I missed out on the original, I thought this would be my opportunity to cash in.

It arrived today and alas, it was not to be. I assumed for the price, it wouldn't be up to it's retail predecessor's quality....but come on!

1. It's KNIT...like a heavy duty t-shirt! (This was a deal breaker for me)

2. It's unlined (I probably would have dealt with that if it were made of different material)

3. It's a bit short. (I just purchased the Gap Striped Sweater Blazer...I like the longer length of it much better...for reference, I'm 5'5 1/2")

X-Small measures 36" armpit to armpit and
21" from the top of the shoulder to the hem

Small measures 38" armpit to armpit and
22" from the top of the shoulder to the hem

While J Crew had a great idea in bringing the maritime blazer back by way of the outlet, imo they did not implement it very well. It's no where close to the original retail version....and therefore for me, this was a pass. :o(

Help!

I just noticed that there is a factory version of the maritime blazer and with the additional 30% off, the price would be $68.60.

I'm fighting myself...do I need another striped blazer? I just got the Gap sweater blazer. What do you girls think? Is there enough difference to justify another striped jacket purchase? Give me your thoughts.

OOTD 1/12/2012 - Wildcat

I had a really hard time getting dressed this morning. (It probably didn't help that I was awake half of the night with a headache) I always pick my clothes out the night before...it makes the mornings run more smoothly. However, this morning I just wasn't feeling the outfits that I had pulled together. I like both of them, but they were giving off a fall vibe.

In the end, I paired the Natasha wildcat with my black cardigan and cafe wool trousers. The heather caramel color of the pants is almost an exact match to the small acorn brown color in the wildcat print.

As for the wildcat natasha, I love it! The leopard spot print is absolutely gorgeous! I like the high neckline and of course, the ruffles. As for fit, I am usually a 4 or 6 in J Crew tops and went with the 4 in this one.

Ugg...it's cold and rainy in NC today and I've got lots of year end deadlines to meet at work. All of this combined, called for warm and cozy and my Holland sweater from last winter fit the bill perfectly.

I like the chunky texture of the knit against the "standard" business attire. And the tortoise belt, adds some interest and a bit of contrast.

Today's outfit is classic with a pop of color to add interest. That's one of the many lessons that I've learned from the fashion blogosphere...you can take an outfit from ordinary to extraordinary by adding something unexpected.

Before I fell under the tutelage of so many wonderful fashion bloggers, I would have likely worn basic black pumps with this outfit. And while that wouldn't necessarily be bad, it would be quite ordinary. That being said, today's shoes are anything but ordinary. They are a recent ebay find and they are fabulous! I had been crushin' on the J Crew Mona patent pumps in poppy but happened across these for a fraction of the cost. Hooray for ebay!!

OOTD 1/9/2012 - Plain Jane, With A Twist

What's more basic than camel trousers and a turtleneck? Or so, one would think. Yet, by adding a brightly colored turtleneck, I was able to punch it up a bit. My particular turtleneck is from Holiday 2009 and the color is called "light berry"; however, you can use whatever vivid color you already have available in your closet.

And of course, imo, no outfit is complete without a bit of animal print. So instead of basic black or brown shoes, I went with my patent tortoise Juliet pumps.

So, there you have it....today's outfit is basic. However, it's anything but, plain jane. Hope everyone has a fabulous Monday!

I also got to wear my new Gap sweater blazer...very cute. It's made of 100% lamb's wool and the fit is tts. It comes in two color ways, black/gray and navy/white. I went with the navy/white combo, as I wanted last year's J Crew Maritime Blazer but never took the plunge. I think I will definitely enjoy this little guy into spring.

One of the upsides to the winter months is being able to wear my penguin cardi. I adore these little guys! This cardigan is from J Crew Holiday 2006 and I was lucky enough to find it on ebay a couple of years ago.

This cardigan was before vanity sizing, so according to current J Crew standards, it runs a bit small. I am wearing a medium. Occasionally, I still see these pop up on ebay, so if you run across one...I say, Go for It!

I have several things that call out to me....plaid, gingham, animal print and vibrant flame (or many of the other names that J Crew calls this orangy-red color) , just to name a few.

Speaking of orangy-red, I recently purchased the Factory Skimmer Pant in modern red. The modern red chino shorts were one of my best Summer 2011 purchases, so I pounced on these. (and I was able to use the current 25% off promo...final cost $40.87). However, word of warning, this modern red is not an exact match to its retail predecessor. It is a bit brighter and a touch more orange but imo just as fabulous.

I'm still enjoying my time away from work. Today, I'm on my way to visit my esthetician for an "end of year" facial. (pardon the no-makeup) Not surprisingly, I've also been doing a bit of shopping. I picked up this sweater at the Crewlet for a mere $12 and change. All of the sale merchandise was an additional 60% off and another 20% off of that. If you live close to a J Crew outlet, it may be worth a visit.

I also visited Nordstrom Rack for the very first time. While I didn't find any awesome deals like Shopping with m did, (See here Prada for pennies) I was pleased. I came away with a cute pair of leather boots ($89) and a leopard coat ($40).

As for the coat, you guys know my affinity for animal print. It calls to me! This time was no exception...I saw the coat and melted! I love it and I will wear it proudly; however, I had to snicker...I can't decide if I look stylish or somewhat sketchy. :o)

Somehow I doubt that you're surprised to see me wearing my tartan plaid shirt....Love it! I wanted to wear it like "Apples and Pencil Skirts" wore it here but unfortunately I don't have a red gingham shirt. Doesn't she look adorable!

I have desperately tried to find a red gingham/plaid shirt but I can't seem to find one in my size. J Crew has the perfect shirt in red gingham but it is completely sold out online. I also contacted J Crew for a "We will find it for you" search....much to my dismay, they did not. (find it, that is) That being said, if you my bloggie friends, see a red gingham check shirt in your holiday shopping travels, please, please, pretty please let me know. I am all over this layering trend lately. I've layered sweaters over shirts, shirts over shirts, sweaters over shirts over tees....ACK....it's layering madness! (But in a good way :o))

Today is no exception....and stripes over checks, no less. I'm sure that used to be some sort of fashion faux pas...no stripes with plaids, don't wear black with blue, don't wear patent after labor day...way too many rules! and hey look, I broke all three in one fell swoop. I think some of the fashion rules are outdated and well just plain wrong. Fashion is ever-evolving and we have to move and change with it or else we run the risk of looking frumpy, old fashioned and antiquated. And who wants that?! Do you follow "fashion rules"? Or are there some that you're willing to break?

Today's outfit was inspired by a picture from the most recent J Crew catalog. I love those things...and have pulled together so many outfits just by recreating their looks with items already in my closet. I have most of the catalogs spanning back to 2009 and periodically peruse them for looks that I can reproduce. If you were to gaze upon my catalogs, you would comprehend the depth of my love for them as a result of their dog-eared pages, post-it notes, etc. You know, occasionally, we all have a "fashion mental block". It happens to the best of us! In those situations, these catalogs are a great tool. Anybody else that's holds on to their catalogs for inspiration? Or am I a lone wolf?

I'm late to the party on these pants....J Crew's cafe capri in houndstooth wool. They made their debut, I believe in September, as part of J Crew's Fall 2011 rollout. However, I just snagged them for $59 with one of the many recent promos.

They are gorgeous...beautiful colors, fully lined and fit tts. I tried to get you some decent pics so you can actually see the color...taupe, spicy olive and hydrangea blue/purple. (BTW...speaking of improved pics, 35 days until I trade in the blackberry for an i-phone. :o))

There was only one downside to these pants....listening to my co-workers tell me I was wearing high-waters. Eh, I'm used to it...I just smiled and said, "Didn't you hear the forecast? They're calling for rain!"

How do I love thee? Let me count the ways. I love thee to the depth and breadth and height my soul can reach....

I was very lucky to run across this gorgeous coat on ebay a couple of months back. I love everything about it...plaid, ruffles, cut/fit...everything! Even better, I paid under $70....I couldn't check out fast enough.

You heard it here first...I have a great idea for J Crew. I think they should introduce a "Vintage Crew" line. They could revisit some of the tried and true, classic styles from past seasons. This coat would be a great place to start! I think this "Vintage Crew" line could draw some strong revenue...I know I would be on-board. So, J Crew, if you're listening....we're waiting! and don't worry...for conceptualizing the idea, I'll only be requesting a small percentage of the profits. :o)

Today at work, we had our Christmas luncheon. I wanted to be festive, but not in the traditional Christmas red that I anticipated most everyone would wear. It was the perfect opportunity to wear my Tartan perfect shirt. I still love this shirt...and I love that J Crew brought it back again this year for those who missed it last year.

J Crew has been in "rapid fire promo" mode as of late? I have ordered a couple of things...most of which are waitlisted until January. I've fallen behind! I was on vacation Monday and Tuesday so, you would think that I should be up-to-date on ootd posts. Unfortunately, that's not the case....but I did have a blast.

I spent Monday scrapbooking with a friend. We met for breakfast and then drove over to a local scrapbook store where we spent the day. We "cropped" our little hearts out! and loved every minute of it. Due to Monday's scrapbooking session, I am in the home stretch of finishing my son's boy scout album. One more sitting to add the pictures from his Eagle Scout reception and congratulatory letters and I should be finished. I can mark this off my list...and, oh, how I love to mark things off of my list! Any other scrapbookers out there?

Today's post title has nothing to do with my OOTD. However, what I'm going to share with you does. Typically, during the holiday season we have more "traffic" through our homes...family visiting for the holidays and Christmas parties, as well as, New Year's celebrations. In a tribute to the spirit of the season, I like our home to smell of Christmas...Warmth, spice, cinnamon and coziness.

So here you go:
2 cups of water
1 tbsp whole cloves
3 cinnamon sticks
1 tsp nutmeg
Put on stove and simmer. Replenish water as needed.

On occasion, I've also added some orange peel and 1 tsp of pickling spice. Enjoy!

Happy Friday! No, they're not plaid but, they sure are cute! And yummy too! Ya'll know I love Krispy Kreme...when I saw these, I just had to have some.

I have an ever-growing collection of holiday plaid items and the time in which I can wear them is getting shorter and shorter. That being said, I think you're going to be seeing lots of "plaid" outfits in the coming days.

Today, I pulled out my plaid scarf that I picked up last year at Forever 21 for a song. ($5, I believe) It's very reminiscent of this fall's J Crew Cashmere Plaid Scarf. Today, is also the inaugural wearing of my black Biellas that I purchased a couple of weeks ago at the Lynchburg Clearance Center. Unfortunately, my style has not always been "spot on". Recently, we've been poring through old pictures in order to create a senior page for my son's yearbook. So often, I seemed to say, "What was I thinking?!" Color-blocked parachute-material sweatsuits, high waisted jeans and the-like. How could I have missed the mark so greatly? Here are a few lessons I've learned over the years....

1. Just because everybody's doing it, doesn't mean I should.
Style in an individual "thing"....our bodies, as well as, our comfort levels are different. So, what looks super cute on someone else may not necessarily work for me. Case in point, J Crew's minnies. Oh, how I want to like them on me. (I've tried them literally three or four times) But, everytime its the same result in the mirror...a big 'ole "I don't think so!"
Lesson learned: It's better to make a choice that works for me, rather than one that works for a friend.

2. Trust your instincts
Generally, I know immediately if I feel cuteness radiating from a particular outfit.
Lesson learned: If I have to question a look, it's probably not working.

3. It's best to stick with the classics
I can go back to J Crew looks from 2005 and they're still relevant today.
Lesson learned: It's best to stick with classic pieces, so twenty years later I'm not looking back saying, "Holey Moley, What was I thinking?"

Hopefully, the next time I walk down memory lane, I'll have more hits than misses!

Look Ma, no pony tail!! I believe today is the first day in two weeks that I've done something with my hair other than pulling it back into a pony tail. Aren't you glad?!

Before a couple of years ago, I don't think I would ever have thought to pair pearls with a chambray shirt. Nevertheless, I like the contrast. The timeless, classic air of the pearls layered onto the somewhat rugged, workwear-like denim shirt. I feel very "J Crew chic"!

Two for one deal today since I never got to post yesterday. Today I'm wearing my new jester argyle turtleneck that I got with the 30% off sweater promo...Awesome! Both the promo and the sweater. The sweater is 100% merino wool. (fairly lightweight) It fits tts (got my normal S) and the colors are gorgeous. It's a deep pine green and lavendar with aqua stripes.

Remember the other day I mentioned that I had big news? Coming soon to Tweed and Toile....Improved pics!!!! I'm getting an i-phone! Woo hoo! Yep, it's true...I stole this look right off of "shopwithm"! Polyvore is a wonderful thing! Love these pants, love this sweater, love these shoes...I'm loving it all today!

These pants have been all over the blogoshpere and everything that I've read about them has been good. You won't hear anything different here....well made, fully lined and a beautiful, classic tartan plaid. Speaking of classic, we should be wearing these for years to come. A co-worker said this morning, "Oh, I like those pants!" "I have a skirt in that same plaid....I need to pull it out." She proceeded to say that the skirt had been her mothers and that her mother had worn it on her honeymoon! In 1953!!! Now that's a timeless print! (I can see myself now...its the year 2069 and I'm 102 still wearing these pants! HAHA)

Love today's outfit...rich, classic and feminine! And the colors are gorgeous together...charcoal pants, camel turtleneck and the blazer is a mixture of the two. Boy, I love it when things come together!

Don't forget to gather your family around the tube tonight (8:00 on CBS) for the Christmas classic, "Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer." I love these Christmas shows....they have become a holiday tradition for our family. I watched them religiously as a child and have continued the practice with my family. (Yes, my seventeen year old son will participate too. :o)) I jokingly told him the other night that since this will be his last year at home before going off to college, we might to have to watch each one twice! Somehow, it's just not Christmas without Rudolph, Hermie, Yukon and the gang! :o) Anybody else out there that still watches these old favorites?

So, as we all suspected, going back to work after having the week off wasn't as bad as I expected. The anticipation of the return was actually the worst part. I still haven't had a chance to do any "cyber shopping". Unlike, Black Friday and fighting the nasty crowds (no thanks)...I definitely want to take advantage of some of the superb offers out there. Today's outfit was just meh....The best part was that my new tortoise watch matched the tortoise buttons on my cardigan! :o) Probably, the fact that I've got an upper respiratory infection doesn't help my attitude. I have so enjoyed this last week away from work and I am already starting to think about facing Monday and what will be awaiting me. Uggg! All right, girls...fasten your seat belt, hold on to your hat and prepare to be AMAZED!

I visited to Lynchburg clearance center the other day. They had several great deals, but I was able to contain myself to just one purchase. Remember the Biella loafers ($228) that I've raved about and also mentioned that I'd like to have the black as well, if they made it to sale? Well, as fate would have it, they had a pair of black Biella's in my size for $90. As great as that is, the story doesn't end there.

The day that I was there, they were offering 20% off everything in the store, bringing the cost of the shoes to $72. Not bad! Not bad, at all...I'll take them! So, I take my shoes to the register, the SA rings them up, I hand her my J Crew card and she says, "Just a second, I'll have to call over to the other store so they can run the CC. We don't have a CC machine." Ok, no problem! (wait, wait, wait) The other store won't answer the phone. (They were extremely busy because they were having a friends and family warehouse sale) The SA hangs up and tries again...after several minutes, still no answer. By this time, her line has backed up with several other customers, so she ask if I minded, if she voided my sale, checked out some other customers, and then she would try again. "Sure", I said "That's fine!" The SA rang out a few more customers and another SA shows up and opens another register. So the SA who had been helping me, calls back to the other store to no avail...still no answer. I said, "I can use another card. I just like to use my J Crew card so I get credit for my rewards card." The kind SA says, "Since you've been so patient, I'll give you an additional 20% off." Of course, I said that would be great! Grand total $57.60!! Needless to say, I was super excited!

Guess the moral of this story is....show kindness and maybe somebody will return the favor! :o)

Crewlet News and a Review of the J Crew Factory Stripe Lambswool Popover

Well, today's button hunt was a bust! But, I'll keep looking...I'm not easily dissuaded when I set my mind to something. :o) On a more productive/positive note, I visited the Crewlet today. Here are a few things you might be interested in:

1. All Factory Haberdashery Shirts are on BIG sale...regular $49.50 on sale for $19.99
They have solids (white, pink) as well as, stripes. You can always use these staples, especially a good white shirt for layering.

2. If you haven't purchased the Tartan pants but are interested...they are $89.50 with 40% off...total $53.70. These pants are so cute and well made...a steal at $50.

3. I found another shoe tee at the Crewlet. Do I need another shoe tee? No, but it was $14.95 with an additional 40% off and I had a 20% coupon...grand total $7. I just had to have it...it's a shoe tee, for goodness sake!

4. The Factory Stripe Lambswool Popover...it is medium/heavy weight and has 3/4 length sleeves. I sized down from my normal S to an XS to get rid of the excess fabric in the waist area. I think my normal S would have worked too but I was going for a bit of the "shrunken" look. It comes in three colors...navy/gray, black/white and navy/burgundy. These are $69.50 with 40% off...total $41.70.

Oh, did I hear somebody say they liked the polka-dot scarf. It's from Old Navy and reminds me a lot of the Boden polka dot version from a couple of years ago. It was a mere $13. It also came in navy and red.

Pardon the absence of makeup, but remember that "me" time that I mentioned the other day....well, I went for a facial this morning. No need to put on makeup just for her to take it off. I've been having regular facials for about six months now and I'm hooked! Of course, they are relaxing but there are also the benefits of deep hydration, boosted circulation, and cellular regeneration all working together to create a fresh-faced healthy glow. I've already noticed fading of some hyper-pigmentation (brown spots) and decreased redness. I understand that both of these tend to come with age and redness is especially prone in fair complexions. (that's me!)

For you lucky Texas girls, there is an esthetician named Renee Rouleau. She has a spa in the Dallas area, as well as, Plano, TX. I heard about her through a magazine article and have been using some of her products for a little over a year. I've been pleased with everything that I've tried and would absolutely love to be privy to one of her facials. She also has an amazing blog that contains a wealth of information about skin and related products, conditions, routines, etc. (You can add her to your blog roll and receive her blog posts)

I really liked today's outfit! I found out about this jacket from "shopwithm" on polyvore. It's an excellent alternative to J Crew's Blackwatch Blazer for a fraction of the cost. It's by Lucky Brand and I purchased mine from 6pm.com on sale for $45 with free shipping. It looks like now they are $52 but in my opinion worth every penny. The fit is tts (took my normal S)...for a nice fitted silhouette. Thick wool/polyester blend, fully lined and nipped in at the waist. I am contemplating switching out the buttons for some gold crest ones to mimic the J Crew blazer. (I going button shopping tomorrow...if I switch them, I'll post the results here :o))

Today's outfit was another layering act and preppy to the max! I thought it turned out really cute and used another of my graphic tees that I mentioned yesterday. I especially love this tee because of the beaded greyhounds on the front. One of our first dogs was an adopted ex-racing greyhound who we named Greycie. She was so sweet and just had a very calming spirit about her. She passed away a couple of years ago and we still miss her.

To try this layered look, start with a button down shirt. (mine was white) Over the button down, layer a tee of your choice and over the tee, add a long cardigan.

If you want an additional layer for warmth or just to add to the "cute factor", accessorize with a pretty scarf.

One last item to mention....the shoes! I purchased J Crew's Biella patent loafers in poppy (see review here) and they are perfection. I want the black Biella's as well, but I am waiting for them to hit sale. So in the mean time, I ordered a cheap pair of black patent loafers to fill the void. I ordered them one evening from Zappos and they were delivered the very next day....how's that for service?! The style name is Beechum and they are faux patent with a synthetic sole, but they are super cheap. I paid $39.99 with free shipping; however, they are now $35.99 with free shipping. If you are in the market for some inexpensive black patent loafers, check these out. They fit tts (took my normal 7) and they are comfortable. (no rubbing, etc)

Happy Friday! And an added bonus for me...no work next week! I'm taking the week off to celebrate Thanksgiving, my 20th wedding anniversary and I'm throwing in a little "me" time. It should be an awesome week! I'm also going to try to finish my Christmas shopping. I'm almost there...just a few loose ends to tie up. I have to finish early before the madness starts and I can tell that its starting to "kick up" a notch.

Today's outfit includes some old favorites from 2009. The faded floral tee is still one of my favorites. It's from the period when J Crew was slapping chiffon on everything. By the way, has anybody else noticed that there haven't been any graphic tee releases recently? It's just as well, I don't need anymore, for sure...but I guarantee that wouldn't stop me if they came out with something super cute. I don't know what it is but, I just love those "dressed up" tees.

I also added the mohair retro-stripe cardigan into the mix today. Another great item that if you don't have, you would be lucky to lay your hands on! I actually saw one for sale on ebay recently with a decent starting price. To finish today's look, I added my staple pearl hammock necklace, jeans and some "way cute" tweed bow flats.

Pinstripes and argyle...that's today's outfit. I really have enjoyed this argyle sweater...love the color combo of camel and vibrant flame together. I can't wait until my wool pencil skirt in vibrant flame arrives so I can pair the two of these. Unfortunately, it isn't due to ship until January. I also think I need to check out the jester argyle turtleneck sweater. I like argyle and I love me a good turtleneck...put the two together and you've almost got to get something good! :o)

Today with my argyle, I paired "Old Faithful"...my chambray shirt. I purchased this shirt from Target back in the summer for $10, which just goes to show that you don't always have to spend a fortune to get something good. This morning I had some errands to run and it was very chilly here, so I thought, "What's a better way to warm up, than with a cup of hot chocolate?" (I'm not a coffee drinker :o)) So, I pulled through the Starbucks drive thru and ordered a Salted Caramel Hot Chocolate. Yummmmy!! It's a mixture of milk, mocha sauce, toffee nut and vanilla syrup topped with whipped cream, caramel sauce and sea salt. Try one and let me know what you think. :o)

As for my outfit, it was inspired by a friend on polyvore, and I added another jacket to help fight off the cold. It started with my J Crew stripe painter tee...love this shirt! My cost per wear has to be change by now. If you missed out on the retail version, the factory store is offering it now in three colors (navy, cedar and charcoal) for $24.50. (Check it out here) It would be a great piece to add to your wardrobe that you can wear year-round.

Over the stripe tee, I layered my wool-cashmere hoodie...and over that, I layered the LL Bean Corduroy jacket. I like this "layering thing" and I think I'm starting to get the hang of it. I also added my pearls and leopard flats which added a little touch of polish and panache.

Happy Friday! and I'm wearing my happy shoes for the very first time! I can't say enough about these shoes, (I blogged about them here) not only is the color to die for but also they're like wearing bedroom slippers. (and I can't say that about many of my shoes)

I was really pleased with the outcome of this outfit. You know sometimes you have an idea that seems grand, but it doesn't come together irl like you'd envisioned. Not so, this time.
First of all, the shoes are a perfect match to the cerise factory stripe tank.
Second, I love the color combo of the orangey-red and camel.
Third, I love the mixing of patterns and textures. (stripes, leopard and chunky cable)

Do you have those items in your closet that are not quite the right fit anymore, but you can't bear to part with them? That's the story of today's skirt. It's Ann Taylor Loft from many years ago. It's a gorgeous green tweed flecked with blues, yellows and orange. I use it as a stand in for J Crew's sparkle tweed pencil skirt that I missed out on. Also, sadly, it's a size too big...It kind of just hangs on my hips. Today, I belted it...so I'm making it work! :o)

I love this look from J Crew. (August or September of 2008, I believe)! Of course, I love any outfit with my beloved shoe tee....still one of my all-time favs!

This is the way it should fit (I'm cinching it up it the back, thus the missing hand :o))

So, you all know that I'm a shoe girl....I've blogged about my weakness many times. However, in my shoe-loving opinion, there hasn't been a whole lot to drool over in the J Crew shoe department in the last couple of years.

Enter the Biella Patent Loafers.

J Crew describes them as....
"Our update to the traditional loafer, this sleek and chic (and utterly timeless) version is carefully crafted from glossy Italian patent leather in the season's most gorgeous hue-consider them an irresistible expression of la dolce vita. Leather lining and sole. 7/8" stacked heel. Made in Italy."

Dolce vita indeed...they are gorgeous and so comfortable! Unfortunately, so often with shoes, that's not the case that they are both aesthetically pleasing and kind to your "tootsies' too.

They come in a lovely array of colors...black, green, bronzed clay and (my choice) poppy. Poppy is definitely orangey...very similar to J Crew's persimmon from 2008 and some of the more recent "flame" colors. Also with the Biella Loafer, J Crew has reverted back to it's superior construction using high quality materials. (thus, the price I suppose.) Additionally worth mentioning, is the comfort factor. The fit is tts and super comfy! (No toe squeezing and the like)

The Biella Patent Loafer gets the Tweed and Toile stamp of approval. In fact, I want the black too. I've purchased a cheap pair of black patent loafers for the interim, but should the Biella in black make it to markdown, they will be mine as well.

Today I paid a visit to the Crewlet and my outfit was planned around "easy on and off" in the dressing room. However, as it turned out, it really didn't matter. I didn't see anything that I couldn't live without. It probably didn't help that the place was crawling with people, so it was really hard to get around to look at things. (I don't like that. :o( and didn't expect it until Thanksgiving...guess the Christmas shopping season has started already.)

I did notice that the Factory store is offering lots of great items from past retail seasons...
-The Timber Tweed Skirt -it looked very much like the retail version, metallic bronze threading and all. The only difference I noticed, perhaps the tweed is not quite as chunky/knotty.
-The Tartan Perfect Shirt - same here, it looked like the retail version...same color and saturation. The difference I noticed, the factory version has a front (left, I think) pocket.
So, if you missed out on some of these the first go-round, you might want to snag these factory versions.

I've been such a copy cat this week! Well, let's say I've been recreating looks...it doesn't have that negative connotation to it. :o) Seriously, I don't think I've had one original thought. I've "recreated" from J Crew catalogs, polyvore sets, style blogs, etc. I guess it just goes to show that there is inspiration everywhere. Yeah, that's it! I'm not a copy cat...I'm inspired! :o)

Today's outfit was inspired by Atlantic-Pacific, a blog that I follow. I loved the look and was able to pull out my much-loved tartan plaid shirt from last year. Of course, you all know by now, how fond I am of my chambray shirt too....so, put the two together and it has to be perfection!

Don't you just love it when you see a cute outfit that you can recreate with stuff already in your closet?! I know I do! Such was the case with today's outfit...it is a recreation of a J Crew catalog look.

I wore my wool pencil skirt in heather acorn. I love these no.2 double serge pencil skirts! As a matter of fact, I was going to order the vibrant flame as well, but it's backordered until mid January. Bummer!
Anyway, to the pencil skirt, I added my camel tissue turtleneck and switched out the yellow coat in the pic for my yellow v-neck cardigan. I also threw in brown herringbone tights and plaid spectator mary jane pumps. You can't tell from the pictures but the plaid on the shoes has some yellow/ochre in it...Yay! :o)

Today I'm wearing my FAVORITE pair of pants. They are a gorgeous herringbone. (orangey-red from Fall 2008)

In addition to the fabulous color, there is a special little touch around the waistband inside of these pants. It reads....Con-fi-dent (kon' fi dent), adj. having strong trust or full certainty, assured of oneself: J CREW "she is confident and comfortable being herself." I just love that!

I just can't seem to get it right! Yesterday, I wore my (cinnamon) dream sweater and was so hot. So today, I thought I'll do capri pants and a light-weight 3/4 length sleeved sweater...still wrong. I haven't been able to take off my Bella...which looks a little strange. Oh well, I'll try to nail it again tomorrow.

Do any of you who work in an office have these issues too?

Today's outfit was a perfect weekend look. It passed the three C's test....cute, casual and comfy!
1. Cute- It includes my gingham check shirt, so it can't help but pass the cute test. I swear, my cost per wear has to be in the pennies by now.
2. Casual- What's more casual than jeans, a sweatshirt and tennis shoes?!
3. Comfy- Yep, cozy and relaxed!
All-in-all, it was a great Saturday outfit!

Today, I'm wearing one of my purchases from the recent 25% off promo...the Honeycomb Cable Sweater. It comes in a beautiful array of colors and is to the heavy-side of medium weight. It's a bit boxy, so I sized down for a better fit.

Word of warning....it's a shedder!! I had thrown my black wool bella on for my commute to work. When I took bella off, she was covered in camel colored fuzz. Yikes...Good thing I keep a lint roller in my desk. Nevertheless, I still think this sweater is a keeper and I am contemplating purchasing it in other colors.

For today's outfit, I layered my striped tee under "Sir-Shed's-A Lot" and topped it with my leopard print scarf. I added black jeans and some super cute J Crew ballet flats. I received several compliments today on this outfit but the best came from my seventeen year old son. As I was headed out the door this morning, my son said, "You look cute." Awwww....warms a mother's heart!

Any of you who have been following me very long, know that I love anything pumpkin. I feel like Bubba from Forrest Gump...pumpkin muffins, pumpkin pie, pumpkin pop-tarts, pumpkin fudge, pumpkin bread, pumpkin..... (and yes, I've eaten all of it this season. :o)) My son asked why everything in our house was pumpkin. (because it's delish!) Anyway, today I discovered that Krispy Kreme has a pumpkin spice doughnut. (Krispy Kreme is another of my loves) It's described as an old fashioned cake doughnut with pumpkin flavors and spices covered in KK orginal glaze. Yummmmy...I think I'll stop by after work and pick up a few. :o)

Ha...I threw you a curve ball today...I tossed in a little bit of Ann Taylor Loft to mix it up a touch. Unfortunately, this outfit didn't turn out quite as cute irl as I'd hoped, but not a total loss....The shoes saved the day. They are fabulous!!! (I blogged about them here) I still like these cord skirts a lot too and this color is one of my favorites.

What a great quote! I like that little unexpected something...a dash of animal print, a bold color combination and the like. Today, the unexpected something is animal print, which I do quite often...so, for me perhaps, it's not that unexpected. Oh well.......

In addition to my tortoise print pumps and belt, I did some layering and turned my cuffs back Crew style. I feel very J Crew catalog today. :o)
